Anyone used chips away?

The person who hit my car is sending them to inspect it. I got quotes from a couple reputable body shops and they believe the bumper and brackets need repair, not just paint. One even recommended a new bumper. I doubt these guys do that kind of work.

If your brackets need repair use a repair shop, fuck the other guy. Do you have a police report?

If the person who hit you is trying to keep it quiet so their insurer doesn’t get involved, they’re going to have to make you happy, not try and cheap out. You really don’t have a lot of incentive to help them commit insurance fraud.

Chips Away are a franchise so it all depends on the individual really. There are three in Carlisle. One is as shady as could possibly be and the other two are okay. Saying that as long as it is just a small area or chip and only paint, they’ll be fine but by the sounds of it, it needs to go to a garage for repairs rather than a touch up.

Did you get his insurance and a police incident report number? If the other driver argues the toss, let the insurance companies slog it out.

Agreed. Don’t worry if I wan’t it done at one of the shops I visited it’ll be done there. I just wanted to see if they are actually a quality service or not.

Yeah it needs bumper realignment and a big patch of paint repair. I have the insurance but no police incident report.

Well, the person who hit you isn’t sending them because they think it’ll be more expensive...

Personally I’d just name them a figure which you’re happy with, tell them to take it or leave it because otherwise you’re contacting their insurance co to get it fixed legitimately. But then, personally I’d also just keep the cash instead of fixing anything so minor.

Yeah keeping the cash was always the plan to be honest. When this chips away guy turns up I’ll chat with him about whether they’re capable of the repair or not then go from there.

Phone them and tell them that a Chips Away repair won’t cut it and that you’ve had quotes and can either get it done or involve the insurance as I take it they want to do it cash rather than upset their no claims bonus.

Yeah she has 9 years no claims so I have leverage. I went to a guy who has his own shop and discussed it with him. He does nice work (I had a good look round while I was there) and knew his stuff. However I may end up keeping the cash if/ when she pays up.

I’ve had the bumper off and all is fine beneath. Just needs bracket repairing and some adjustment. The quarter panel lip is also out by a tiny amount but the repair guy I want to use said it’s a quick and clean repair.

Get the quote from the chipsaway guy, tell the other driver you are taking it to the ‘more expensive’ shop to have it fixed, receive moneyz, take it to chipsaway guy and keep the difference! WOOT!
